Concrete Technology strives to be a responsible corporate citizen of our community. As such, we seek every path to increase efficiency and reduce waste.
We participate in the North American Precast Concrete Sustainability Plant Program, which is set up to encourage and measure the improvement of precast plants. We have been working with national and Canadian organizations through the Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute to reduce the environmental impact during the manufacturing process and create a culture of cleaner, more responsible use of our natural resources. This program covers a wide spectrum of areas to monitor, such as dust control, noise reduction, water management, energy consumption, materials used and transportation.
We also participate in the North American Precast Concrete Industry-average Environmental Product Declaration (EPD). This EPD is an independently verified document that provides the information that relates to the life-cycle environmental impact of precast concrete as a product. This EPD is available from our office upon request.
Often, we are asked to provide documentation to fulfill job-specific LEED requirements. We commonly aid our customers in obtaining LEED credits in the Materials and Resources (MR) category. CTC continues to use quality steel that is high in recycled content as well as regionally available aggregates and cement, unless specified otherwise. We have LEED accredited professionals on staff.
Many other aspects of precast concrete make it a wise choice for the environment and the budget. Precast concrete is made in a highly controlled factory that is able to reuse many tools, supplies, forms and equipment and reduce waste. Precast concrete also has many inherent properties that benefit the design goals, such as fire protection, thermal mass, and durability.
