Cheney Stadium is the home of the Tacoma Rainiers, a AAA baseball team that is part of the farm team system for the Seattle Mariners. The stadium has been in continuous use since its construction over 40 years ago. At the time it was built it received national recognition for its innovative design and extremely fast construction schedule. Preliminary designs began on December 20, 1959; construction started on January 2, 1960; and the stadium was completed and opened for the first home game on April 14, 1960!
